The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and the Covid-19 SRD (Social Relief of Distress) have revealed the grant payment dates for January 2025!
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), under the Department of Social Development, has announced the grant payment dates for January 2025, check them out:
- Older Person’s Grants: payments will begin on Friday, January 3, 2025, including accounts linked to these grants.
- Disability Grants: payments will be made from Monday, January 6, 2025, covering linked accounts as well.
- Children’s Grants: will be paid starting Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
For the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, payments for recipients approved in January 2025 will be processed between January 25 and January 31, 2025. To know the exact date when the payment will be receiveed on their bank accounts, beneficiaries should check their status on the official SRD website.
SASSA Grant Increases
Aimed to provide better support to grant recipients across South Africa, SASSA has implemented increases in social grants, effective from October 2024. So, here are the updated amounts:
- Old Age Grant (under 75 years): increased from R2,180 to R2,190.
- Old Age Grant (75 years and older): increased from R2,200 to R2,210.
- War Veterans Grant: increased from R2,200 to R2,210.
- Disability Grant: increased from R2,180 to R2,190.
- Care Dependency Grant: increased from R2,180 to R2,190.
- Child Support Grant: R530 or R780, with the additional top-up of R250, per child
- Foster Care Grant: R1 180
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: R370
How Can To Collect Your Grants
The grants can be distributed in various forms, such as through direct bank transfers, electronic vouchers, at SASSA pay points, or at an institution acting as administrator of the grant. If you’re unable to collect your payment in person, you have the option to authorize someone to do it for you, by appointing a procurator at a SASSA office or granting someone power of attorney to collect the funds on your behalf.
The SRD grant, however, is distributed depending on the situation and the recipient’s needs, such as:
- Cash Payments: beneficiaries can receive financial support directly through bank transfers or mobile money services.
- Food Vouchers: theyallow recipients to buy essential groceries.
- In-Kind Support: it may also be provided through food parcels or other necessary items.
